It is reported that the Obi Island red earth nickel ore smelting project in Indonesia is currently under construction, and the current construction progress is over 60%. If the project progresses smoothly, it is expected to be completed and put into operation at the end of 2018, and has obtained an export quota of 2.2 million tons of Indonesian laterite mine.
The Obi Island laterite nickel ore smelting project in Indonesia is designed by Jinchuan Nickel-Cobalt Research and Design Institute Co., Ltd., which uses RKEF process to treat laterite nickel ore to produce ferronickel. The annual treatment of nickel grade 1.9% laterite nickel ore is 1.7 million tons (dry basis). It produces 200,000 tons of nickel-iron containing 15% nickel (metal nickel 30,000 t/a).
